GCSE FRENCH: French Passé Composé with ÊTRE: Lesson + Exercises

(0)
This is meant to be a set of exercises to be used after presenting the passé composé with être. For a change of pace (or in case of teacher absence), when introducing the passé composé with être, you could use this set of exercises to reinforce the 20 minute lesson I've recorded on YouTube (it's free: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6-HxU_nIoY). This could make for an excellent interactive homework assignment! Students will identify which verbs need avoir, and which need être, they'll write the definition of an intransitive verb, they'll list the 17 verbs that use être in the P.C., they'll identify the verbs that sometimes use "être" and other times use "avoir", they'll have to know that reflexive verbs also use "être", and finally they will rewrite ten sentences in the passé composé using être as helping verb.

These printable handouts accompany a video about French cultural tips on YouTube. The video is not my property and is not downloadable with this resource. You will need to watch it online. The video is about 8 minutes long, and this resource includes one page with 12 questions in English to share with your students for discussion about cultural differences prior to watching the video. The second page includes 12 questions written in English to be answered while watching the video. There is a vocabulary list in French and English of all 15 French words introduced in the video. Finally, to wrap up the lesson there is a fun crossword puzzle to complete. The clues are given in English and the answers are in French. These resources make it easy to transform a short 8 minute video into a comprehensive cultural lesson that you’ll feel good about using with your students. French Christmas Scattergories Game

French Christmas Scattergories Game This is a really fun activity to play with your students before and after Christmas as they practice and build their vocabulary in French. Le Petit Bac - Scattergories sera le jeu parfait! You can play this game with students of literally any age or level, and it's perfect for both core and immersion curriculums. Players attempt to create answers for each of the four categories on their game. This should be a fast moving game and there are only spaces for six words per category. The MAXIMUM they can write is six words so they have to choose them wisely. Students can be creative and flexible with their answers, but other players can challenge them! 12 games are included with 48 different categories! You can either print out the game sheets or project them to save paper and ink. For younger students you can allow more time for them to think and write, while older students will love the challenge of the timer. French Prepositions of Location Reading Exercise and Writing Worksheet

(0)
As your students learn French prepositions of location it is nice to have several exercises and activities planned to get in as much practice as possible. This is a reading exercise about a tidy bedroom and a writing exercise about an untidy one. Give your students the list of French prepositions of location and provide them with the quizlet study set I’ve made to help them practice and master the new vocabulary. There is a paragraph to read about a tidy bedroom. The idea is to see if students can figure out what it means even if they don’t know all of the vocabulary. The prepositions of location are used as context clues. The next part of this activity is to have students write a paragraph of their own about the image provided featuring an untidy bedroom. A list of useful vocabulary is provided and a quizlet study set as well. This list of vocabulary itemizes everything you see in the bedroom so that students can focus on the writing activity rather than looking up words in the dictionary. Students write ten complete statements about the untidy bedroom. GCSE FRENCH: French Subjunctive Activity: Giving Advice - Le Subjonctif

(0)
Formation of the French subjunctive is the easy part. Learning how and when to use it correctly is when it gets a little tricky for our students. This is an activity on giving advice, suggestions and opinions using the French subjunctive. Included you will find fourteen different situations to which your students will have to respond by either making a suggestion, giving your opinion, or giving advice of some kind. Students will use the provided list of 24 expressions that must be followed by the French subjunctive to help them get started. 3 sample responses are provided for each of the 14 situations (to be used at your discretion, possible responses are provided in the answer section and the original is left open for students to use). Sample situation: Ton meilleur ami doit déménager dans un autre pays, et tu vas lui manquer. Quels conseils lui donnes-tu? Sample response: Il est important que nous gardions le contact par Skype et que nous nous écrivions toutes les semaines sur Facebook.

GCSE FRENCH: French Verb Tense Exercise

(0)
If you have been reviewing verb tenses with your more advanced students, you're going to appreciate this worksheet! 9 tenses are represented in this worksheet, presented by Love Learning Languages: présent, passé composé, imparfait, futur simple, futur antérieur, plus-que-parfait, subjonctif, conditionnel, conditionnel passé. There are 20 sentences to complete. The correct verb tense and infinitive are in parentheses. This quiz is to assess written formation of the different tenses, and not necessarily when to use each of them. However, once your students have taken the quiz, you have an excellent opportunity to go over the answers together, and to explain why each tense was chosen for that particular setting.

GCSE FRENCH: Passé Composé Speaking Task Cards

These 30 questions are just right for students who need to practice the PASSÉ COMPOSÉ, and they are a perfect no prep speaking activity for busy teachers. Each EST-CE QUE question uses the TU form with verbs in the passé composé. In addition to regular and irregular -ER, -IR and -RE verbs I've also included many verbs with irregular past participles and those that use être as well as avoir as helping verb. In order to avoid OUI and NON answers, each question also includes an interrogative word which is great practice in helping to remember what they mean and where they're placed in the sentence. Since all of the questions are asked in the TU form, all of the answers will be in the first person singular. This is so that students can really focus and get used to using these verbs when talking about themselves and when talking to a friend. Just cut out the 30 cards, punch holes in the spaces provided and attach the stack of cards with a key ring. It would be a great idea to print on card stock and laminate the cards before punching holes and attaching them. Super easy and no prep for years to come. Both black and white and color versions are included as well as a 2 page print out of the questions if you should decide to use them as a quiz or homework assignment. I am a firm believer that repetition is key in learning a language, and that's why I've created many different versions of these speaking cards. All of the cards ask the same basic questions, but each time in a different tense. My students really appreciate the familiarity of the cards even when learning a new tense.
